Citizin
Citizin
Dietary supplement with sweetener based on citicoline (Cognizin®) and vitamins
“CITIZIN / CITIZIN”
CITIZIN is a dietary supplement with sweetener, containing citicoline (Cognizin®), vitamins A, C, E, biotin, B-group vitamins (B1, B2, B6, B12), and blackcurrant extract, in single-dose sachets ready for oral use.
CITIZIN can be used as a dietary supplement to a regular diet — an additional source of anthocyanosides, citicoline, vitamins A, C, E, biotin, and B-group vitamins (B1, B2, B6, B12) for proper maintenance of visual functions.
- Vitamin C, B1, B2, B6, B12, and biotin support the normal functioning of the nervous system.
- Vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of vision.
- Vitamins C and E help protect cells from oxidative stress.
- Blackcurrant supports microcirculation.
Citicoline (cytidine diphosphocholine, or CDP-choline) is a mononucleotide produced by the body from choline as an intermediate in the synthesis of cell membrane phospholipids. Oral doses of citicoline are rapidly absorbed, then hydrolyzed in the intestinal wall and liver into choline and cytidine. Cytidine is metabolized as uridine, crosses the blood-brain barrier, and is then converted to cytidine triphosphate (CTP). Free choline is phosphorylated into phosphocholine, which combines with CTP to re-form citicoline in the central nervous system, where it:
- acts as an intermediate in the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine and sphingomyelin, increasing their levels and reducing their turnover;
- restores cardiolipin — a phospholipid component of the inner mitochondrial membrane necessary for electron transport — possibly by inhibiting the hydrolysis of the enzyme through phospholipase A2 suppression;
- increases levels of certain important neurotransmitters, which are choline donors in the biosynthesis of acetylcholine, raising its level in the hippocampus and neocortex, and increasing dopamine levels in the striatum by enhancing tyrosine hydroxylase activity, as well as inhibiting dopamine reuptake in neural synapses;
- reduces cerebral glutamate activity by increasing the expression of type-2 amino acid transporter, thereby counteracting beta-amyloid deposition and increasing the number of oligodendrocyte precursors.
- Adults are advised to take 1 sachet per day, preferably in the morning, after a meal. Duration of use — 30 days.
